“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden” was the headline the Mail ran with

The Daily Mail has expressed its support for the UK’s decision to accept more migrants from Calais and give the city £44m to beef up border controls.

In a comment-piece this morning, usually cantankerous thought-spewer Richard Littlejohn said “This seems eminently fair. Why shouldn’t we help those wanting to benefit from being a part of our country, when they bring more to it than they take out?

“Speaking as someone who pays a lot of attention to the minutiae of socio-economic data, I would like to offer the nuanced opinion that despite our sad trudge towards an inevitable, foolhardy Brexit, moves like this can show Europe that we still have a heart, and that we care about the little man or woman, and their struggle.

“I say this is a reasonable and small price to pay to cooperate with our French brothers-in-arms.”

But Polly Toynbee in the Guardian banged her fists on the keyboard until her knuckles bled to produce a short piece which read “AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! So f*cking angry! They want to COME OVER HERE, take OUR JOBS, use OUR MONEY to fund their criminal, disgusting lifestyles??! RISE UP BRITAIN! NEVER SURRENDER!

“And don’t give in to the weedy right wing establishment with all their namby-pamby appeasement! Kick the foreigners back INTO THE CHANNEL!!!!”

In other news, Donald Trump was today awarded the Nobel Peace Prize after healing the rift between Israelis and Palestinians, as well as that between India and Pakistan, all in one afternoon, whilst simultaneously standing up to Russian aggression and persuading Putin to suspend his nuclear programme.
